Isn't sure how he was "made" (discovered). (Probably by Operations). Stayed alive by feeding Red Cell disposable Section Intel. Uses the cover name "Karel Giraldi". Asks Nikita to bring him in during the Goellner mission. She discovers Ops rerouted Sands communications then trashed them for the last 9 years. When Nikita goes to Madeline for advice, Madeline tells her Sand is her husband and then shoots him during the Goellner mission because bringing him in isn't an option.
